Direct Audio into the Mac

Craig T. Bailey

Well, I'm pleased to say I've got the Morserino piped into my Mac.

In addition, I built a mixing circuit to blend a wired mic input with the line out audio from the Morserino.

This mixer goes into a USB dongle audio card.

Why? you might ask?

When participating in CW Ops Academy, or any other video conferencing system, where you are working with other Morse trainees, its common place to just let the PC's built in mic pick up the code oscilator's side tone over the air.

I'm finding skype was terrible at clipping the keyer, and Zoom wasn't much better. By having it piped direct, the folks on the other end get clean code. Also, by piping it direct, I'm using my headset plugged into the PC (Mac in this case) as the monitor of the side tone.

I suppose this is also precisely what the Mumble app needs as well.

Just one more reason why Morserino is a GREAT educational tool!

I’ve charged the crappy $7 lipo battery from amazon once two weeks ago, and been using morserino daily in a 70 minute commute.

That battery he is showing would run it for a year! LOL

I had a "outdoor.cases B&W International type 1000" that I had purchased for another purpose that I am using. It's a hard, waterproof  Pelican type case that I purchased at Fry's on sale. I think it was around $20. It has the pick and pull squares of foam so it will conform with whatever you put in it. The slit on the side is where I put the antenna.. I just have it at an angle so you can see it, it doesn't travel that way. The case is a little bigger than what is needed but it works great and I don't have to worry when I travel with it. With the extra room I can add ear buds which I use most of the time so I don't disturb anyone. It works for me.

Careful! LiFePO4 batteries have different voltages.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithium_iron_phosphate_battery
If you charge them via Morserino which I guess is designed for LiPo / Lithium Ion? Batteries the charging voltage will be too high
LiFePO4 batteries Maximum charge voltage = 3.65 V
LiPo is charged with about 4.2 V.

That's the XS (extra small) case.

That’s a great idea.   For the US Amazon site there are three sizes for this product.  What size is this Amazon Basic case?

Hi,
what packaging do you use for transporting your morserino?
I'm using the AmazoneBasics GoPro XS pouch and I'm happy with it. just needs a bit of foam cutting...

Hi all,
I created a 18650 cell holder. For those of you, who have access to an 3D printer this might be a solution.

Try to do this, if only to make sure your WLAN connection is working.
But updating the firmware will not purge the file system.
The problem likely arose when you tried to stuff 8MB into a 1MB space… When you upload a file, the previous one should be overwritten. Try with a different short  file first, that you created with a text editor.
